Emir Salih Mağden is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering at Koç University, and is the founding director of Photonic Architecture Laboratories. He has received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering in 2012 from Tufts University (summa cum laude and with highest thesis honors), Medford, MA, USA, and his S.M. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, MA, USA in 2014 and 2018. Prior to joining Koç University, he was with the Photonic Microsystems Group and the Integrated Photonic Materials and Devices Group at Research Laboratory of Electronics of MIT, and previously with the Renewable Energy and Applied Photonics Lab at Tufts University.
During his graduate studies, he worked on the development and optimization of integrated photonic devices and systems for broadband optical signal generation, stabilization, and manipulation. His current research interests include adaptive integrated photonics, CMOS-compatible amplifiers and lasers, and ultra-broadband on-chip optical networks for communications, sensing, and optical data handling applications. Prof. Mağden has authored and coauthored more than 45 journal and conference papers; and his work published in Nature Communications on integrated filters was featured on MIT’s homepage as a cover photo in August 2018. He is the recipient of The Scientific and Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) Career Development Grant, the Science Academy’s Young Scientist Award (BAGEP 2018), the three-time recipient of SPIE scholarship in optics and photonics, and Amos Eberson Dolbear Scholarship. He is a member of Optical Society of America, Tau Beta Pi, and Eta Kappa Nu.
Emir Salih Mağden, Koç Üniversitesi Mühendislik Fakültesi Elektrik ve Elektronik Mühendisliği Bölümü’nde doktor öğretim üyesi olarak görev yapmaktadır. Kendisi Fotonik Mimari Laboratuvarı’nın kurucu direktörüdür. Lisans derecesini elektronik mühendisliği alanında 2012’de Tufts Üniversitesi’nden üstün başarı ve onur ödüllü tez dereceleri ile, yüksek lisans ve doktora derecelerini ise sırasıyla 2014 ve 2018’de Massachusetts Institute of Technology’den almıştır. Koç Üniversitesi’ne gelmeden önce, araştırmalarını Massachusetts Institute of Technology’de Elektronik Araştırma Laboratuvarı’nın birer parçası olan Fotonik Mikrosistemler Grubu ile Entegre Fotonik Malzeme ve Aygıtlar Grubu’nda, daha öncesinde de Tufts Üniversitesi’nde Yenilenebilir Enerji ve Uygulamalı Fotonik Laboratuvarı’nda yürütmüştür.
Lisansüstü çalışmaları sırasında genişbant optik sinyal üretimi, stabilizasyonu ve işlenmesi uygulamalarında kullanılan entegre fotonik aygıt ve sistemlerin geliştirilmesi ve optimizasyonu üzerine çalışmıştır. Şu anki araştırma alanları iletişim, haberleşme, sensörler ve optik veri işleme uygulamaları üzerine, adaptif entegre fotonik sistemler, elektronik ile beraber çalşabilir yükseltici ve lazerler, yonga üzerinde ultra-genişbant optik ağlar konularından oluşmaktadır. Çalışmaları ile 45’in üzerinde dergi ve konferans makaleleri yayınlamıştır. Nature Communications dergisinde yayınlanan makalesi ile 2018 Ağustos’ta MIT internet sitesine kapak fotoğrafı olmuştur. 2018’de TUBITAK 3501 Kariyer Geliştirme Ödülü’nü, yine 2018’de Bilim Akademisi tarafından verilen Genç Bilim İnsanı Ödülü’nü (BAGEP 2018), 3 kez SPIE optik ve fotonik bursunu, ve Amos Eberson Dolbear bursunu kazanmıştır. Optik Topluluk (OSA) ile Tau Beta Pi ve Eta Kappa Nu onur topluluklarına üyedir.
